What does it mean to be a Beyond Flexner Alliance Ally?
Beyond Flexner Alliance would like to acknowledge organizations that are aligned in their vision of supporting health professions education in which social mission is valued to drive health equity and improved health for individuals, communities, and nations. The alliance is intended for collaboration to collectively further our shared mission. Organizations have the opportunity to join the BFA movement as BFA Allies.
Current Beyond Flexner Alliance Allies:
Duration: The Beyond Flexner Alliance Allies agreements are two (2) years in duration with review and renewal on a biennial basis, as appropriate.
Current Beyond Flexner Alliance Allies:
- Endorse the Beyond Flexner Alliance Mission.
- Are invited to attend Beyond Flexner Conferences, including presentations pending abstract submissions.
- Engage in the Beyond Flexner Alliance virtual community through the website, blogs, and publications.
- Engage the Beyond Flexner Alliance in their organization’s social mission activities.
- Receive public recognition as a Beyond Flexner Alliance Ally on BFA’s website and at BFA Conferences.
Duration: The Beyond Flexner Alliance Allies agreements are two (2) years in duration with review and renewal on a biennial basis, as appropriate.
Current BFA Allies

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) was founded in 1947 to promote and maintain high quality standards for family doctors who are providing continuing comprehensive health care to the public. It is one of the largest medical organizations in the United States, with 136,700 members in 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam, as well as internationally. The AAFP was instrumental in establishing family medicine - a derivative of classical general practice - as medicine's 20th primary specialty.

The Anchor Institutions Task Force (AITF) is a growing network of over 700 leaders promoting the engagement of anchor institutions—including colleges, universities, hospitals, community foundations, libraries, arts institutions, and other anchors—in community and economic development. The AITF is designed to develop and disseminate knowledge and function as an advocacy and movement building organization to create and advance democratic, mutually beneficial anchor institution-community partnerships.

The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship immerses a diverse group of graduate students in a mentored experiential learning and leadership development program designed to increase their skills and commitment to more effectively address the health needs of underserved people.

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), is committed to improving health care and health care delivery to all people; promoting active improvement in medical education; involving its members in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine; assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems; contributing to the welfare of medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and post-MD/DO trainees; and advancing the profession of medicine.

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is a nationally respected and innovative healthcare system that is making a positive difference in people's lives. Based in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston's metro-north communities, CHA provides coordinated care to a diverse patient population guided by its core values of compassion, integrity, respect, community, learning, and excellence.

The Camden Coalition works to advance the field of complex care by implementing person-centered programs and piloting new models that address chronic illness and social barriers to health and wellbeing.

The Network Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) is an international organization that fosters equitable community-oriented health services, education and research with the goal of improving health locally and globally. TUFH convenes innovative health care organizations, universities, community institutions, and thought leaders from all over the world.

The Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) mission is to provide visionary leadership in nursing education to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. By fostering dynamic and collaborative nursing education strategies, OADN ensures that the Associate Degree Nursing remains a pathway for a diverse spectrum of students, enriching the profession, and meeting the health care needs of patients, families, and communities.

The Sex and Gender Health Collaborative (SGHC) was established to advocate for inclusion of a sex and gender lens into the training of medical and health professionals. SGHC gathers evidence-based sex and gender educational resources; increasing awareness that sex and gender matters for individuals; clinical outcomes; and in health systems, by promoting sex- and gender-related collaborations among diverse groups.
