BFA Research Committee
Social mission research is not an established field but needs to be. Social mission research encompasses planned activities that generate new knowledge in the areas of diversity, community engagement, health disparities reduction, health equity promotion, the social determinants of health, and the responsible use of health resources. It would include methods and skills found also in research in the fields of health services, policy, disparities, prevention, and community participation. Research related to educational programs, techniques, and outcomes is central to establishing the field and improving the output of educational institutions.
The mission of the BFA Research Committee would be to help define and promote this field of endeavor. The committee’s activities might include further defining and scoping the concept, proposing strategies to promote greater funding and participation in this type of research, connecting and collaborating with groups and initiatives invested in these areas of research, editorial and social media work promoting key concepts, and partnering with others involved in potential research initiatives.

Student Assembly
In 2020, a team of BFA interns decided to launch the Beyond Flexner Alliance Student Assembly - a student centered arm of BFA, focused on bringing together interdisciplinary health profession students passionate about social mission. Launching in the fall of 2020, the student assembly will serve as a resource to bring students together to promote social mission, network, and organize around health equity.
BFA Student Assembly members will have the opportunity to be involved in advocacy efforts, communication strategies, and outreach activities. Additionally, all members will have access to the BFA network, a community of like-minded people sharing experiences, joining various projects, and vast resources.
In an effort to promote health equity and interprofessional education, the BFA student assembly seeks to collaborate with other organizations and groups. We are always open to partnerships, activities, and events in the future. Please feel free to reach out with any collaboration or promotion ideas.
