The State of the Evidence for Social Mission (coming soon)
While there is a developing body of research on social mission, outstanding questions remain that limit stakeholders’ ability to understand what works in health professions education to advance health equity. In 2020, The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity, in collaboration with the Beyond Flexner Alliance, began work to shed light on evidence, gaps, and opportunities for advancement in social mission research. The first phase of this project involved a scan and synthesis of the existing social mission published literature and evidence base. These findings will be used to facilitate multi-stakeholder discussions planned for Spring, 2021 to identify research priorities and strategies for accelerating social mission research.
Social Mission Metrics Initiative
The Social Mission Metrics Initiative centers around the creation and use of metrics to measure social mission in dental, medical, and nursing schools across the United States. By providing school leaders with a tool to objectively assess the status of social mission at their school, the Initiative aims to advance the field of Social Mission measurement and enhance the national conversation around Social Mission in health professions education.

Launching in the fall of 2020, the student assembly will serve as a resource to bring students together to promote social mission, network, and organize around health equity.
